Staying Prayed Up

Hey All,

I hope everyone is doing well. As the outdoor season approaches I wanted to give you all an update on how my training is going and give a few tips and advice. And let you all know that my blog is currently going through some changes! It is now Hurdlingthroughlife.com and I will be posting multiple times per week. Some posts will be updates on me and track, others will be informational about hurdles and track, there will be workout tips and health tips post, advice posts and Q&A post (so send me questions!!!) and of course Feature Fridays will continue!

I also wanted to let you guys know that I am working on a Spoken Word Poetry Chapbook that I will be having per-sale for very soon!!! I am currently looking for an illustrator and working on the book cover so it is almost complete! The proceeds will go to my Road to Rio journey! Feature Friday: Jahvid Best

Jahvid Best is a former American football running back of the National Football League (NFL). He was drafted by the Detroit Lions in the first round of the 2010 NFL Draft. He played college football at University of California, setting several school records, including most all-purpose yards in a single season and most rushing yards in a single game. Jahvid also led the Pac-10 in total rushing yards in 2008. He is now a professional track and field athlete specializing in the 100m and 200m events. He was a standout track athlete in high school for both events, ranked as one of the best high school athletes in the country, respectfully.

Feature Friday: Dominique “Domo” Booker

Dominique “Domo” Booker was born February 10th, 1992 to Martin and Stefani Booker. Both of her parents were stellar track and field athletes in high school, college and even on the professional level. She has four brothers, all of which have participated in track and field or are still participating. She graduated from the University of Kentucky where she was a double major in Psychology and Sociology. She now trains at Altis in hopes of perfecting her craft and becoming a stand out track athlete.

Feature Friday: Jarvis Harris

Jarvis Harris is an American 400-meter hurdler originating from the small town of Ama, LA (just outside New Orleans, LA). Having graduated from Harvard University in May of 2015 with a degree in Bioengineering, he is now residing in Phoenix, AZ training at ALTIS as he dedicates himself to prepare for the US Olympic Trials. While at school, he was a three-time Ivy League Champion, a four-time NCAA Regional Qualifier, and Captain of Harvard University Men’s Track & Field team.

Feature Friday: Tori Polk

Tori Polk a native of Waco, TX and a graduate of Texas Tech University with degrees in both Accounting and General Business, is an American Professional World Class Track and Field athlete specializing in the Long Jump. Tori is also the creator and founder of Polk Apparel, an apparel company that specializes in elite, individual and group uniforms. Her Awards and Honors include:

  • Represented the United States of America in the 2011, 2013, 2014 World Championships
  • 2014 Long Jump World Championship Finalist (5th), Sopot, Poland
  • 2014 Long Jump USA National Champion, Albuquerque, New Mexico
  • 2013 Long Jump World Championship Finalist (8th), Moscow, Russia
  • 2013 Long Jump USA National Silver Medalist, Des Moines, Iowa
  • 2011 Long Jump World Championship Qualifier, Deagu, Korea
  • 2011 Long Jump Pan American Games Finalist (7th), Guadalajara, Mexico
